Post-Editing SRT (Proofreading)

Subtitling.net management

Last Update 7 days ago

Post-editing subtitles isn't always required, but if you want to make changes, simply open the .srt file in any text editor or word processor.

Once you're happy with the edits, upload the new .srt file under "My Videos" on our website. We'll render a new 1080p hardcoded video for you, free of charge.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Be sure to save the file in .srt format and use UTF-8 encoding.

  • Example: corporate.srt (✅ correct) — corporate.txt.srt (❌ incorrect)
  • To preview your updated file before uploading, you can use VLC Media Player. Read more...

⏱️ ADJUSTING TIMECODES

Yes, you can adjust timecodes too. If you add or delete subtitles, you don’t need to keep the numbering in sequence. Any numbering is fine. Just make sure:

  • There are no overlapping timecodes
  • The formatting is correct (see example below)
  • Each subtitle block has a blank line underneath it

🧾 EXAMPLE

1
00:00:02,320 --> 00:00:06,640
Look at the size of that trunk.
You could put three bodies in there.

                                            (Always a blank line!)

3
00:00:07,460 --> 00:00:10,599
Just kidding. Just trying to levitate the situation.

4
00:00:11,700 --> 00:00:15,959
Okay, thank you. We appreciate it.
-Sure, sure. Hey, what kind of car do you drive anyway?
